I have used "Being Leaders" by Aubrey Malphurs quite a bit as he clearly understands there is a big difference between leadership and management. His book is based on his two definitions of a Christian leader/leadership: 1) Christian leaders are servants with the credibility and capabilities to influence people in a particular context to pursue their God-given direction, and 2) Christian leadership is the process whereby servants use their credibility and capability to influence people in a particular context to pursue their God-given direction. The key here is "influence," or motivating people to and within ministry.

Malphurs, Stanley, and Blackaby are all books I have read in the past. However, for me, there are two leadership books that I repeatedly take off my shelf to review and 1 that I highly recommend everyone purchase.
An absolute must read and one for your shelf is The Performance Factor: Unlocking the Secret of Teamwork by Pat MacMillan. This book is very practical and will help align any team. Charts/visuals/definitions/q & a/ sample assessments ect. Wonderful tool for forming new teams or aligning ones already in existence.
Number two, is The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes & Posner. Great overall insight into general leadership principles.

Thanks for your insights, men! I've always liked the definition of leadership as "influence." I don't have a particularly commanding or charismatic personality, but seeing leadership as influence has always been a big help to me.
