Is the idea of the rapture biblical? I have met people here in turkey that have different views than what I grew up learning. So I was wanting to hear some thoughts on this topic.

Like the word trinity, for example, the word rapture is not found in the Bible, but the idea (or doctrine) is biblical. Check out the following link: bible.org/series/rapture. They are audio lessons by John Walvoord who is now with the Lord. He was arguably the premier voice on the rapture and other end times topics while alive, and his audio on this topic lives on. Take a listen and let us know what you think.

The rapture is clearly biblical if one takes a normal reading of Scripture. It would be impossible to understand Paul's words of being "caught up" in 1Thess 4:17 in any other way when one does a word study of the underlying Greek word in all its NT contexts. This Greek word was translated into the Latin Bible as rapiemur from raptio, from which our English word "rapture" comes from.
The event of the Rapture is clear and a sound doctrine that a pastor must hold fast as part of his qualification to pastor (Titus 1:9), but the timing of the Rapture is not clear, and a disputable matter, that should not separate brethren (Rom. 14:1).
